Nava's log book

Lieutenant Georges Nava, the prime suspect in the bombing of the Channel 4 TV station in , Tarija had logistical support which allowed him to “organize blockades, provide material support to blockaders in the form of slingshots, road tacks, dynamite, and firecrackers” in Yacuiba, according to Senator Roberto Ruiz, the photographs taken at the scene show that Nava was carrying more than one military firearm, explosives of varying density and size, fuses, wires, firecrackers, road tacks, detonators, and bullets. Also, according to Bolivian newspaper La Razón, in the recovered the log book one of the planned activities reads: “Meeting with the president of MAS.” (more…)

According to La Paz newpaper La Razon, the files stored on a flash memory card that allegidly was found on Lieutenant Georges Nava Zurita contain information on subversive activities that have occured in Bolivian until June and also future plans for later this year.

A flash memory card was discovered on Lieutenant Georges Nava Zurita during his arrest following the bombing of the TV station in Yacuiba. The information on the card, according to the information provided by the government, is of an alleged civil war and contains references to “special groups”: of the National Police connected with the US Drug Enforcement Agency(DEA).

National Unity (UN) Party Deputy Arturo Murillo linked presidential spokesperson Juan Ramon Quintana and Customs General Cesar Lopez with the Counterterrorism Force (formerly called F-10) which saw action in Huanuni, Sucre and other parts of Bolivia were violence occured.

“Cesar Lopez, Head of Customs, is the god father of Quintana, Second in command of F-10 in Chachapuma. They (Lopez and Quintana) became linked when Juan Ramon worked at the Ministry of Defense from 2002 to 2003 and the General Lopez was a Chief-of-Staff, “said Murillo.

A special commission of the Upper House of the Bolivian congress that was tasked with investigating the June 21 dynamite bombing of a TV station in Yacuiba, announced that Peter George Nava Zurita had contact with two MAS party senators, and he made calls to other “VIPs” after being arrested. This according to the logs of his cell phone and his notebook. A quote from his notebook reads: “in case of emergency call Santos Ramirez and Ricardo Diaz,” said Senator Roberto Ruiz (Podemos.

Millennium Grant meeting between US and President MoralesThe Millennium Account for Bolivia was “frozen” indefinitely and with it the (US) $ 657 million that President Evo Morales had asked the United States to provide for development projects in northern Bolivia. U.S. decided six months ago ‘freeze’ the project, but the government of Bolivia chose yesterday to make the decision public to appear related to the crisis over the expulsion of US Aid from Bolivia.  “We were surprised that the Government of Bolivia chose this moment to take note of”  a decision made six months ago, said Aaron H. Sherinian, spokesman for the Millennium Account, in a statement sent from Washington. He added that there will be regular reassessments of the decision.

President Evo Morales June 4, 2008On Saturday President Evo Morales declared in Oruro that “after Bolivia and Ecuador refused to allow it (the U.S. military bases) (…) it is now being moved to Peru.” Then, Morales called on “the people of Peru” to “resist and expel the American military bases.” In a previous statement by President Morales on June 4, President Morales said he thought that Peruvian President Alan García was “fatter than ever and less anti-imperialist”, when referring to their differences on NAFTA  and its impact on the Andean Community of Nations (CAN). The Peruvian government’s response to these statements was to recall Ambassador Fernando Rojas in order to “rethink” its diplomatic relations with Bolivia. This incident occurred at a time when the US ambassador was also recalled to his country.

Savina Cuellar Leaño of the opposition IACSD alliance wins with 60.5% of the vote in Chuquisaca, with the president’s MAS canidate in second drawing 35.9% of the vote, and the Social Alliance in a distant third with 3.6%. Prefect - Elect Savina Cuellar Leaños is the first woman to be elected by popular vote in Bolivia’s history. Women now control the two main institutions in the department - the Prefecture, through Savina Cuellar, and the Mayor of Sucre Aydée Nava.

Early on the morning of June 21, the police arrested Lieutenant Georges Nava on suspicion of involvement in the explosion of the tv station after he got in a wreck leaving the scene. Nava was driving a Rav 4 with license plate 1481-GPB, a rental car owned by ‘Barron’s Rent-a-Car’. The officer also carried an AK-47, a pistol, cell phone, and some cash.

Bolivian Senate President Oscar Ortiz, along with senators from the Podemos party, presented documents last night which they say show that the Embassy of Venezuela rented the vehicle that was being driven by Lieutenant George Nava. Lieutenant Nava is the man accused of the attack on the Channel 4 Yacuiba ( Tarija).

In Podemos’s Santa Cruz office, Ortiz showed the media a number of reciepts, one of them belongs to the vehicle that Nava was driving that day. In addition, he signed out other cars on behalf of the embassy. Those vechicles were not found. The reciept in question specified a Rav4, with plate 1481-GPB, the recipt was made out to the Embassy of Venezuela, and the person who took possession of the vehicle was ‘Oswaldo Flores’, who had an La Paz identity card.

According to the exit poll conducted by the newspaper El Deber, Tarija became the fourth department to approve an autonomy statute since May 4. The first vote occured in Santa Cruz, followed thereafter by Beni and Pando. 78% voted in favor of the Autonomy Referendum, according to exit poll results. Turnout was high in Tarija despite attempts by the Morales Administration to discourage voter turnout which included blockades and an attack of a local tv station in Yacuiba.

The Departmental Coordinator for Change (Codecam), which encompasses over 30 organizations in Tarija, announced that they will not participate in the vote on Sunday and warned against the use of schools as polling places. The vice president Codecam, Fabian Chavez, indicated that the people of Tarija can not validate an act that falls outside the law and that seeks to “impose a statute created by the departmental prefect.”
